Software Installation

System Requirements (required before installing liveSite on your web host)

liveSite™ will run on any Windows, Linux, or Unix server that supports PHP and MySQL, including most web site hosting accounts. You can find the requirements below for Windows servers and Linux/Unix servers.

Windows Servers

• Microsoft® Windows Server 2000/2003/2008
• Microsoft® IIS Web Server (w/ ISAPI Rewrite 2.x) or Apache 1.3+ Web Server (w/ mod_rewrite)
• PHP 5 - 5.3.* Application Server with cURL extension enabled
• Zend Optimizer 2.5.7+ for PHP 5 - 5.2.* or Zend Guard Loader 3.3+ for PHP 5.3.* (Zend requires a non thread safe version of PHP on Windows)
• MySQL 4.* - 5.* Database Server (Note: Strict mode must be disabled in version 5+)
• SMTP Gateway (for outbound mail)

Linux / Unix Servers

• Apache 1.3+ Web Server (w/ mod_rewrite)
• PHP 5 - 5.3.* Application Server with cURL extension enabled
• Zend Optimizer 2.5.7+ for PHP 5 - 5.2.* or Zend Guard Loader 3.3+ for PHP 5.3.*
• MySQL 4.* - 5.* Database Server (Note: Strict mode must be disabled in MySQL 5+)
• SMTP Gateway (for outbound mail)

Spell Checker

Pspell extension for PHP (for local spell checking), Aspell (for local spell checking, not supported on Windows), or cURL extension for PHP (for remote spell checking via Google).

Process Payments Automatically

If you would like to process credit/debit cards automatically you will also need:

• SSL Certificate
• One of the following payment gateway accounts:
  Authorize.Net, ClearCommerce/PayFuse, First Data Global Gateway (formerly LinkPoint/YourPay), PayPal Payflow Gateway, PayPal Website Payments Pro and/or PayPal account with Express Checkout support (e.g. PayPal Business Account)
• If a payment gateway account is used then a merchant account is required (ask your bank)

The Mcrypt PHP extension is required in order to encrypt credit card data in the database for PCI compliance.

Site Designers

No HTML authoring tool or image editing software is required and FTP software is not necessary.

You can import your own designs too. Any HTML page and associated javascript, css, flash, animation, streaming audio and video media, and image files can be easily imported into liveSite™. 

Site Editors

Any recent web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox, Safari, Chrome)

Basic System Resource Requirements

• 5MB MySQL database space for most typical organizations
• 10MB of disk space for the application program itself
• 400MB+ file space for documents/images/etc uploads as needed
