Software Installation

After installing liveSite, I can't login and there is no styling for the website.

UPDATE: liveSite v7.3+ now supports being installed in a sub-directory.  If you are still having this problem then please see this article.

You might have installed liveSite in a sub-directory (e.g. http://www.example.com/example/livesite/), which liveSite does not support.  The software directory (e.g. livesite) must be placed in the web root (e.g. http://www.example.com/livesite/).

I am having the same problem. I installed livesite as it was said to be done. But, when I go to home page its just text there no regions, or styling! When I go to livesite/files there is an .htaccess file there, that say's deny for all. When I change from deny for all to allow for all, then everything show's! But, is it safe to do this (allow for all)!

The fix for me was to point the domain name at the hostgator site...that allowed the program to do "it's thing" and evrything showed the way it was supposed to. Interesting on the htaccess file....I'll google that command and see if that fix is something I can use.....

http://home.golden.net/htaccess.html this random article shows some variations on the command you are talking about.....deny, allow can be used as "allow from ip address" or "allow from .noname.net", etc....

I am interested in if you also do not have your domain pointed? If so, then this solution you have posed might be a temp workaround until the domain is actually pointed....I run across situations like this sometimes where clients have to wrestle away their domain name from another registrar and it causes issues with me starting the work because livesite wants the domain pointed....

Check the liveSite software download and instuctions again. There should not be a .htaccess file in the liveSite/files directory, only in the root directory.

Oh my...yes, I missed that part when I read your note.....htaccess in files folder....I thought you were talking about the one in the root directory....anyways...learning, growing, moving ahead :)

If you are leaving the front end site live you can still use the livesite tool...go in to the htaccess file and put a # sign in front of the line that indicates a redirect to the livesite front end....the old site will remain as the dominant site...you can access livesite redesign by typing www.yoursite.com/livesite
