Change the site before making it live

Hi-
I have my site up and running and am happy with my forst effort- thanks for all the help.

How can I make changes to the elements and content of the site without making it live?

I THOUGHT I could change the site in the background without changing what folks see until I hit the "Activate" button. BUT what I am finding is that I can change the theme --- colors and what not... but not the content. WHen I go to THEMES and click on one that is not active it takes me to the menueto change the theme- but does not let me change the elements.

I think this changed with the upgrade- befoer when I was in theme and I hit SAVE A NEW COPY it took me out of theme designer and let me work on the new copy.

LiveSite allows for instant changes to take affect except for themes which you mentioned. In order to have other changes not take affect, you need to duplicate the elements (pages, page styles, common regions, etc).
