Credit Card Verification Code Issue

Posted by swak3146 VIP on June 11, 2012

Our Customers are having a problem when they enter a credit card verification code with a leading 0. The system is rejecting/denying the submission.

They should only enter the three or four digits displayed on the back of their credit card. If for some reason, the CCV code on their card has a leading zero, then there is something else wrong with their card or billing information preventing the transaction from going through.

(liveSite merely passes this information to the payment gateway and returns their error to the screen. You may need to check with your payment gateway as too the error message and possible resolutions.)

I have been having this same issue as well. It seems that your code eliminate the leading zero and registers only the following 2 numbers. I believe this needs to be fixed within the system use field.

We have checked the raw data that liveSite sends to payment services and have verified that leading 0's are included correctly. If you are still having problems with this, then it is most likely a problem with your payment service, processor, or etc.

I am using Authorize.net and have confirmed that there have been no unsuccessful attempts to process these transactions in which the user has a CCV code that starts with a zero. The transactions are being stopped by liveSite before being transmitted to the gateway. I dont know if it makes a difference or not, but i can literally see liveSite eliminate the leading zero when it is entered.

As far as I can tell, I have the newest version of liveSite and the issue is with the shopping cart or checkout process on the site itself and not the gateway.

What browser and version are you using? Also, if you can create a video that demonstrates the problem that would help us.

Update…

Background: The Credit Card Verification field was changed to a "number" field type in liveSite v8 so that mobile phones would pull up the appropriate keyboard based on the field type, making it easier to order online from a liveSite using a mobile phone.

Issue: Apparently, Safari for the Mac removes leading zeros for HTML 5 "number" field types. Is an incorrect operation so we expect they will fix this in their browser at some point.

Since we don't know when that will be, or if some other browser users may also have this issue, we have decided to convert the verification field back to a "text" field and this change will be available in the next release of liveSite (v8.1).

Good to hear.

Any idea as to when this release might be?

Probably in August is my guess…
