Wondering why our Livesite is loading so slowly

Posted by buffalobikeshare on July 13, 2012

For some reason our livesite is loading very slowly on two of my coworkers' computers. It's taking literally minutes for the page to show up in their browser. Also, it is most definitely not the internet or computer, because other pages load fine. And I don't think it is our hosting provider, because we have a non-livesite website hosted with them and that page loads fine.

So what could it be?

Then it can be only two other things:

1) you have very large images on the page (or many ads within your ad region if you are displaying one in your page).

2) any links that load data from a third party site is loading slowly. So turn off social networking in your site settings temporarily and see if that is it. If you are linking to Facebook or another data feed, that could be it too.

We don't have large images or any ads.

We do have the links on the top that people can share with facebook or twitter, etc. share the link to our website on their social media.

I was thinking it could be the font? We're using a special Google font that was in the themes. Would that severely slow it?

oh. it might be because we have two videos embedded on the page...

Yes, if google fonts is offline momentarily for some reason (it does happen from time to time), then that will cause it too. You can usually see the culprit by viewing the status bar at the bottom of your browser window. If it is waiting on something, it will be displayed there.

Is there a way to condense the page to make it load faster without having to remove the videos and all the images from our page?

liveSite fully optimizes all objects it loads itself and caches them as fully as possible.

If you are loading other objects and services outside of liveSite control, you might search google to see if others have any optimizing techniques you are not using.
